Where to watch the sunset in Sedona
Sedona's red rocks glow at the end of the day. Here is where to see it.
The red rocks change color by the minute in the last hour of daylight, from orange to deep red to purple. Arrive about 30 to 45 minutes before sunset to find a spot and watch the whole show.
Little Sugarloaf, our favorite
Our own favorite spot for both sunrise and sunset, and you can walk to it from your villa. Follow the Lower Chimney Rock Trail to a short, steep spur that climbs to the flat slickrock summit of Little Sugarloaf, with a 360-degree view over Sedona. Unlike the famous viewpoints, there are almost no tourists here. Bring a headlamp for the walk back.
Sedona Airport Overlook
The classic Sedona sunset view, on Airport Mesa a few minutes from West Sedona. The overlook gets busy, so come early. A short walk along the mesa trail gives you a quieter perch.
Doe Mountain
A short, steady climb to a flat mesa top with views in every direction. Bring a headlamp for the walk down after dark.
Crescent Moon Picnic Site
Also called Red Rock Crossing, this creekside park looks straight up at Cathedral Rock, one of the most photographed views in Arizona. It is a day-use fee area and closes in the evening, so check the hours before you go.
From your own villa
Some of the best sunsets need no driving at all. Several of our villas have private balconies, some with red rock views. Order a cheese plate ahead of time and enjoy the evening on your own balcony or patio.
After dark
Sedona is an International Dark Sky Community, so stay out a little longer. On a clear night the stars over the red rocks are as memorable as the sunset.
